Olympia sprawls in the western Peloponnese, over the southwest foot of Mount Kronios, at the confluence of the Alpheios and the Kladeos rivers, in the beautiful valley of the Alpheios.

Olympia became the most important religious and athletic center in Greece. Ancient Olympia was dedicated to Zeus, the king of the gods. It was the location of the Olympic games (Pan-Hellenic Athletic Games), the greatest national games and a highly prestigious one worldwide, which was held every four years to honor Zeus. There lies the most celebrated sanctuary of ancient Greece: the Temple of Zeus. Within the temple was a statue of the deity that stood an impressive 12m tall. It was thought of as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

Any time of the year is suitable to visit Olympia. By bus, you can reach Olympia from Athens via Patras and Pyrgos or via Tripolis and Megalopolis.
